Dr. Ross Behikeesh

TRADITIONAL ORIENTAL MEDICINE DOCTOR
Shefaa center’s founder, Rostam (Ross) Behikeesh, MD(IR) LAc, is a board certified acupuncturist, herbalist by the california Board of acupuncture and a licensed primary care physician by Tehran Board of internal Medicine . He practiced internal medicine for 15 years before entering traditional chinese medicine training.
Rostam was Born in a family of natural healers. His great grandmother in particular was a known natural healer of her time and his grandfather was a spiritual leader. Rostam was always interested in healing people and reducing their pain from early childhood.
After going to medical school and practicing western medicine for some years, he realized its best if he could incorporate traditional medicine and the western medicine together. He realized that prevention and patient education is the best way for promoting health and harmony to people’s lives.
Rostam is a strong believer that healing comes from inside and all the practitioner does is to be a mediator and help patient to find the own way to health, harmony and peace.
Rostam graduated from Tehran School of Medicine in 1996 with a doctoral degree in internal medicine. His research was on Coarctation of Aorta. He is the co-author of a heart surgery article funded by the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery entitled “Coarctation of Aorta.”
One of his outstanding work “Outcome of Mitral Valve Repair in Shariati Hospital” was presented in 12th congress of Iranian Heart Association Collaboration with Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic Foundation and published in Iranian Heart Journal.
Rostam was a co researcher in the following articles: Comparison Between Mitral Valve Repair and Replacement, Anatomy of Coronary Artery Vessels in Symptomatic IHD , Relationship Between HTN & Psycho Emotional Problem, RET-Proto-Oncogene in Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma.
After graduation he served in military for 3 years. During this time he treated several hundred military personnel and their families. He also served rural areas where he was able to treat so many people with different disease and conditions. He did not have access to advanced para-clinic or diagnostic testing. He had to only rely on clinical evidence for treating patients. That is when he experienced first hand how western medicine would be much more beneficial if we can add traditional approach to it.
Treating more than thousand patients during 15 years of practice in field of western medicine, studying different approaches and also connecting with so many spiritual mentor, help him to choose wisely path of eastern medicine.
Dr. R. Behikeesh is fluent in Farsi and Dari.
He is a member of the Institute of Functional Medicine (IMF), The American College of Surgeon (FACS),The American Family Physician (AAFP), The American College of Physicon (ACP), American Medical Association (AMA), The American Society of Acupuncturist (ASA) and California State of Oriental Medicine association (SCOMA).
In addition, He is an active member of his community like Federation of Zoroastrian Northern America (FEZANA) and California Zoroastrian Center (CZC).
Dr. R. Behikeesh has written several articles for different publications and has most recently worked on article regarding “Traditional Nutrition in Persia”.
Knowledge of western and eastern medicine with experience in both medicine, make Dr. Behikeesh unique and outstanding.
